Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Farmooly — for shoppers, vendors, market operators, and wholesale buyers.

🌾 General
What is Farmooly?+
Farmooly is an all-week local food network connecting shoppers directly with farmers, ranchers, and independent food producers. Discover someone at a farmers market, then keep buying through market pickup, farm pickup, local delivery, shipping, pre-orders, or a CSA share when that producer offers it.
Is Farmooly free?+
Farmooly is free to download. Shoppers pay a small Platform Fee at checkout — $0.50 + 4% of subtotal, the same online and in-person — that funds the marketplace. Vendors pay a 4% Farmooly fee per sale on the Free plan, or 2% on Farmooly Pro ($29/month). Square or Stripe processing charges apply based on the checkout path; Farmooly does not mark up processor rates.
What devices does Farmooly work on?+
  • iPhone — native app on the App Store (iOS 15+)
  • Android — native app on Google Play (Android 8+)
  • Web browser — no download needed at app.farmooly.com

All platforms share the same account — update something on your laptop and it shows up on your phone instantly.

Is Farmooly available outside the United States?+
Farmooly is currently focused on the U.S. market but is designed to support local food communities globally. International expansion is on the roadmap — contact info@farmooly.com if you'd like to bring Farmooly to your country.
How do I contact Farmooly support?+
🛍️ For Shoppers
How do I find farmers markets near me?+
Open the Farmooly app and go to the Markets tab. Farmooly will show you active markets in your area, the vendors who participate, and what's available that week. You can browse by product type, vendor, or market day.
Can I buy local food when the farmers market is closed?+
Yes. Participating producers can publish online order windows and offer market pickup, farm or stand pickup, local delivery, shipping, or recurring CSA shares. Availability varies by producer, and Farmooly shows the dates, deadlines, locations, and fulfillment methods offered before you pay.
How do I pay at the market?+
For a Farmooly Tap to Pay sale, the vendor enters or scans the order in Farmooly and you tap your contactless card or Apple Pay, Google Pay, or another supported mobile wallet on the vendor's compatible phone. You can also scan a vendor's Farmooly QR code to shop and check out in the app. Qualifying purchases earn Farmooly points regardless of whether Square or Stripe processes the card. SNAP/EBT charges run on the vendor's own authorized EBT terminal.
Can I use SNAP/EBT at farmers markets through Farmooly?+
Yes — Farmooly helps you find participating farmers market vendors who accept SNAP/EBT. Look for the SNAP badge on a vendor's profile, browse their SNAP-eligible items in the app, then pay with your EBT card at the vendor's EBT terminal at the market. Farmooly is the discovery and facilitation layer; each vendor holds their own USDA FNS Retailer Authorization and runs the EBT transaction on their terminal.
Can I support food bank donations through Farmooly?+
Yes! Farmooly has a built-in donation feature that allows shoppers to donate fresh local food purchases to food banks and community organizations. Look for the donation option at checkout with participating vendors.
What is the Farmooly Health Community?+
Farmooly includes a general wellness community where you can track food, fitness goals, hydration, local-food purchases, community challenges, and optional personal measurements. Use it to explore your routines and trends, not to diagnose a condition or determine that one food or purchase caused a medical result. Access it from the shield icon on the customer home screen.
🌽 For Vendors & Farmers
How do I sign up as a vendor?+
Download the Farmooly app (iPhone, Android, or use the web app), create an account, and choose "Vendor" during setup. You'll be guided through adding your business details, product listings, and payment configuration. It's free to start — you only pay a small fee when you make a sale.
What does Farmooly charge vendors?+

No monthly fees to get started. Here's exactly what comes off each sale:

  • Free plan: Farmooly takes 4% of your product subtotal. Vendor keeps 96%.
  • Pro plan ($29/mo, 14-day free trial): Farmooly takes 2% instead. Includes 2 featured listings ($198 value), email marketing, pre-orders, and analytics.
  • Payment processing: Square handles connected in-person Tap to Pay sales and eligible single-vendor app checkout. Stripe remains available for multi-vendor carts, web checkout, and supported backup paths. Each processor's applicable standard charges apply; Farmooly does not mark them up.
  • Customers also pay a Platform Fee ($0.50 + 4%) at checkout that funds the marketplace itself — your prices stay clean and unsurprising.

Already use Square? Connect that seller account to Farmooly for market-day Tap to Pay. Farmooly adds a discoverable storefront, customer follows and notifications, email marketing, announcements, pre-orders, loyalty points, and a community of buyers actively looking for local food.

How does scan-and-pay work for my booth?+
Farmooly generates a QR code for your booth so shoppers can browse, choose items, and check out. Connect your Square seller account to use Tap to Pay inside Farmooly on a compatible phone and to enable eligible single-vendor app checkout. No separate card reader is required. Stripe can stay connected for multi-vendor carts, web checkout, and supported backup flows.
Can I connect the Square account I already use?+
Yes. Sign in to Farmooly as a vendor, open Payment Setup, and choose Connect Square. Sign in with your existing Square credentials and authorize the same seller account your business already uses. You do not need to create a new Square account. Farmooly uses the authorized Square account and location for in-person Tap to Pay and eligible single-vendor app checkout. You can also keep Stripe connected for multi-vendor carts, web checkout, and backup coverage.
Can I accept SNAP/EBT as a vendor?+
If you hold a valid USDA FNS Retailer Authorization, you can mark your booth as SNAP/EBT-accepting in the Farmooly app — your profile gets a SNAP badge and your eligible items get a SNAP tag so shoppers can find you. The EBT charge itself still runs on your own EBT terminal at the market; Farmooly is the discovery and facilitation layer, not the payment processor. Don't have an FNS authorization yet? Apply free at fns.usda.gov/snap/retailer/apply, or email info@farmooly.com for help getting set up.
Can I manage my inventory and listings from a computer?+
Yes! The Farmooly web app at app.farmooly.com gives you the full vendor dashboard on your laptop or desktop. Add listings, upload photos, track orders, and manage your catalog — much faster than typing on a phone. Everything syncs instantly with the mobile app.
What is Farmooly Pro and is it worth it?+
Farmooly Pro is $29/month (14-day free trial, $24.17/mo when billed at $290 annually) and includes:
  • 2% Farmooly fee per sale instead of 4% on Free — saves $20 on every $1,000 in sales
  • 2 featured listings/month ($198 value)
  • Pre-order storefront (shoppers reserve items before market day)
  • Email marketing & vendor newsletter
  • Advanced analytics, CSV export, Pro badge

Break-even math: on fee savings alone, Pro pays for itself at $1,450/mo in sales ($29 ÷ 2%). Below that, Free is cheaper on fees — but the included featured listings ($198 value) usually swing it to Pro at almost any volume. If you sell regularly at market, the pre-order storefront alone often captures sales you'd otherwise lose to customers who can't make it in person.

Can I do CSA subscription management through Farmooly?+
Yes. Farmooly supports CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) subscription management — create recurring subscription shares, manage member pickups, and send updates to your subscribers directly from the app. Eligible pickup-based Farm Box subscriptions use a saved card through Square for recurring renewals. Farmooly+ and Farmooly Pro are digital subscriptions billed through the App Store or Google Play in the mobile app, with secure Stripe checkout available on the web. These platform-subscription billing paths do not replace the vendor's Square connection for eligible marketplace checkout and Tap to Pay.
🏡 For Market Operators
How do I get my farmers market on Farmooly?+
Email us at info@farmooly.com and our team will walk you through the onboarding process. It's free for market operators to get started on Farmooly. We'll create your market profile, list your vendor roster, and help you promote the app to your shoppers and vendors.
Can I manage vendor applications through Farmooly?+
Yes. Farmooly includes tools for market operators to manage vendor applications, curate vendor listings, and promote your market to local shoppers. You can update your market schedule, announce special events, and communicate with your vendor community.
Does Farmooly support announcements for market events?+
Yes. Market operators and vendors can post announcements directly in the app — seasonal specials, new vendor spotlights, market closures, and special events. Shoppers who follow your market will be notified.
📦 Wholesale & Institutional Buyers
Can restaurants and institutions buy wholesale through Farmooly?+
Yes. Farmooly supports wholesale and bulk purchasing from local farms and vendors. Restaurants, schools, food banks, and institutional buyers can browse wholesale listings, place bulk orders, and coordinate delivery or pickup. Visit farmooly.com/wholesale.html for details.
How is wholesale pricing handled?+
Vendors can set separate wholesale pricing tiers for bulk orders. Wholesale buyers see those prices when browsing wholesale-enabled vendor profiles. Contact info@farmooly.com to get your wholesale buyer account set up.
🛡️ Health Community
What is the Farmooly Health Community?+
Farmooly includes a general wellness community built into the shopper experience. Members can track food, activity, hydration, local-food purchase habits, and community challenges in one place. Farmooly helps people explore personal patterns over time; it does not diagnose conditions or claim that a purchase produced a medical outcome. Access it from the shield icon on the customer home screen.
Can I track fitness and food purchases together?+
Yes. The health community lets you view local-food purchase habits alongside food logs, fitness activity, hydration, and community challenges. These views can help you notice patterns and stay consistent, but they do not establish that local food caused a particular health outcome.
Can I log blood test results or health metrics?+
Yes. You can optionally log personal measurements, including blood test results, and review them beside your own food and activity history. The app shows timelines and trends for reflection; it does not interpret results, diagnose a condition, or attribute a change to a specific purchase. Your personal measurements are private by default, and sharing requires your choice.
Are community health challenges public?+
Community challenges are visible to other Farmooly members who join them, but your personal health data and specific metrics are private. You can participate in a challenge (e.g. "Eat local 3x a week") and see community-wide progress without sharing your individual health records.
💳 Payments & Refunds
What payment methods does Farmooly accept?+
Farmooly supports credit and debit cards and supported mobile wallets. For an in-person Square Tap to Pay sale, tap the card or wallet on the vendor's compatible phone. Online payment options depend on the checkout and device. At SNAP/EBT-accepting vendors, the EBT charge runs on the vendor's own authorized terminal; Farmooly is not the EBT processor.
Does Farmooly track rewards and marketplace taxes on Square sales?+
Yes. After a completed Square Tap to Pay sale, Farmooly finalizes the order, issues the receipt, and awards points once for qualifying purchases. Farmooly also records the tax allocation and marketplace-facilitator responsibility associated with the order, including the amount assigned for platform remittance where applicable.
Can I pay with MooLa from Apple Wallet or Google Wallet?+
Yes. Add funds to your prepaid MooLa balance, save the MooLa pass to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet, and open Wallet when you are ready to pay. The vendor scans the pass, so the Farmooly app can stay closed. MooLa purchases earn 2× Farmooly points. The pass is currently scanned as a secure QR code; it is not presented as a bank card or universal contactless payment card.
How do I cancel an order and get a refund?+
Go to the Receipts screen in the Farmooly app and tap the order you want to cancel. You can cancel for a full automatic refund within 2 hours of placing the order, as long as the vendor hasn't started preparing it. The refund is issued immediately and typically appears in your account within 5–10 business days depending on your bank.
What is the refund policy for perishable food?+
Perishable items (fresh produce, meat, dairy, eggs, prepared foods) are final sale — no returns or refunds once delivered or picked up, except for documented quality problems. If you receive something spoiled, unsafe, or significantly not as described, contact the vendor directly first through the Farmooly app — they are your fastest path to resolution. If the vendor is unresponsive, email support@farmooly.com within 24 hours with photos and your order number. See the full refund policy for complete details.
Can I get a refund on non-perishable items?+
Non-perishable items (shelf-stable goods, artisan crafts, merchandise, packaged foods, candles, soaps, clothing, etc.) can be returned within 7 days of delivery if unused and in original condition. Contact support@farmooly.com to initiate a return with your order number and reason. Full refund policy →
When do vendors receive their payouts?+
Vendor payouts are processed on a regular schedule through the Farmooly platform. Contact info@farmooly.com for current payout timing details, as this can vary based on your account setup and payment processor.
